Pontotoc Runner Named Conference Runner of the Week

Blue Mountain XC runners Leah Johnson and Will Porter both were announced Southern States Athletic Conference Runner of the Week award winners, the conference office announced today.

The pair competed in the Mississippi College Season Opener Saturday, with the women taking first place and the men taking second.

Johnson ran a 20:15 in the 5K, coming in second individually and running at a 6:31 per mile clip.

In his first collegiate race, Porter clipped the tape at 17:19 in fourth place at the 5K event and at a 5:34 per mile pace.

BMC men’s head coach Heather Duley said, “Will is making an impact from the start. I have been impressed with his performance and his positive attitude. I’m so pleased he joined our Topper XC family.”
