Millsaps Football Dominates Centenary 57-0
The Millsaps College football team routed Centenary College 57-0 at Atkins Field Saturday night. The Majors outgained the Gents 443-125 yards offensively and forced four turnovers on defense, according to team sources.
Junior quarterback Grant Bizjack completed 14 of 19 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 57 yards. Senior quarterback Quez Goss went 4 of 5 for 96 yards, scored twice — once on a pass and once on a rush — and added 10 rushing yards.
The running game was effective, totaling 217 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Tameron Patterson led with 59 yards rushing and a score. Mitch Taylor, a redshirt senior, and freshman DeAndree Franklin each added 31 yards on the ground and scored for Millsaps.
Freshmen Aaden Johnson and Kaven Taylor caught touchdown passes of 59 and 24 yards, respectively. On defense, Zabian Boutan scored off a strip-sack fumble, returning it for a touchdown. Junior Justin Smith also scored after an interception.
Special teams contributed to the victory with Davis Dare returning five punts for 77 yards, one kickoff for 26 yards, and catching four passes for 29 yards. Kicker Connor Babin successfully made all seven PATs and kicked seven kickoffs for an average of 61.7 yards, including a 65-yard touchback.
The game opened with Patterson rushing for a one-yard touchdown, followed by a successful extra point from Babin. The defense forced a fumble late in the second quarter, which Boutan returned for a touchdown. Babin then added a field goal to extend the lead to 14-0.
Just before halftime, Smith intercepted a pass and ran it to the end zone, with Babin converting the extra point to make it 21-0. In the third quarter, Bizjack connected with Johnson on a 59-yard touchdown pass. The scoring continued into the final quarter, with Taylor rushing for a 10-yard touchdown and the Majors outscoring the Gents 29-0 in the period.
The game concluded with Goss rushing for an eight-yard touchdown, followed by a 24-yard pass from Goss to Taylor, and Franklin rushing 12 yards for a score. Millsaps will host Hendrix College at Harper Davis Field on Sept. 19 in the Hall of Fame Game, with live coverage available online.
