Women’s Basketball Falls to Oglethorpe, 59-53, on Senior Day

The Millsaps women’s basketball team lost to Oglethorpe University 59-53 in a close contest Saturday inside the Hangar Dome. The game marked Senior Day, with four seniors recognized for their contributions: Lexus Keyes, Maddy Maw, Rachel Pflum, and Elyse Warren.

Millsaps led early, with a 10-4 advantage off turnovers and outscored Oglethorpe 10-8 in bench points in the first quarter. The Stormy Petrels controlled inside, leading 38-28 in points in the paint. Millsaps shot 26.9 percent (18-for-67) from the field, while Oglethorpe shot 37.5 percent (24-for-64).

Junior Garin Freeman scored 19 points and dished out seven assists for the Majors. Warren, a Memphis native, finished with 11 points and 18 rebounds for her 21st double-double of the season. Tia Anderson added 12 points, while Bailey Johnson contributed eight points and two steals.

The game was tightly contested from the start. Warren led Millsaps with several successful layups, including one at 5:35 of the first quarter. Freeman’s layup with 1:34 left in the period extended the lead. The Majors forced 12 turnovers in the first half, leading 17-10 after the first quarter and 32-27 at halftime.

Oglethorpe surged in the third quarter, taking a five-point lead before Millsaps rallied. Freeman’s basket and free throw tied the game, and she later put the Majors ahead 41-40. The teams tied again at 42-42 late in the quarter. Freeman’s free throw with seven seconds remaining gave Millsaps a 43-42 edge heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Oglethorpe opened with an 11-0 run to take control. Freeman scored two layups, and Anderson added points from the free-throw line and a layup to cut the deficit to 55-50 with 2:20 remaining. Despite a late push, Millsaps could not overcome the lead, losing 59-53.

Millsaps will be the No. 3 seed in the 2026 Southern Athletic Association women’s basketball tournament.
