William Carey Women’s Tennis Sweeps Three Matches at SSAC Round-Up

The William Carey University women’s tennis team dominated at the SSAC Round-Up, sweeping all three matches with identical 7-0 scores. The Crusaders defeated Abraham Baldwin, UT-Southern, and Blue Mountain Christian, according to team reports.

On Thursday, Carey opened with a win over ABAC. Carey and her doubles partner won three straight matches before singles victories from Tiffany Chang, Isabella Lechuga, and Li-Hsien Lin. Malak Abarkane and Victoria Vieten added wins, and JiAn Kang closed out the sweep.

The Crusaders continued their success Friday, despite UT-Southern winning at No. 1 doubles. Carey responded quickly, with Carey winning at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles. Vieten led singles with a straight-set victory, and Kang, Lechuga, and Lin followed with commanding wins to clinch the match. Chang and Abarkane contributed additional wins, with Abarkane battling through a first-set tiebreak before winning the second in straight sets.

The weekend concluded with another sweep against Blue Mountain Christian. Carey swept doubles and singles, with Vieten, Lechuga, Chang, Lin, Kang, and Abarkane all earning decisive victories. Kang finished with a 6-2, 6-1 singles win, while Abarkane secured her match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

The Lady Crusaders are set to return to action on April 1, hosting SSAC rival Loyola University.
