William Carey Wins on the Road Behind Dunn’s 22 Points

Marietta, Georgia — William Carey secured a 96-81 victory over Life University on Thursday night in a game marked by momentum shifts and clutch performances. The Crusaders, ranked among the top teams in the Southern States Athletic Conference, improved to 16-4 overall.

Head coach Steve Knight praised his team’s execution after the game, saying, “I thought our guys played great. We made timely shots all night and tightened up the defense and rebounding down the stretch to win going away. Several individuals had excellent offensive nights for us, but we played great as a team.”

The game started with Life’s Calvin Payton hitting a deep three, but William Carey responded quickly. Jamar Jenkins and Javeon Gordon scored the first 13 points for the Crusaders, who jumped to an early 13–5 lead. Life rallied to cut the margin to 18–14, but Carey responded with a 12–3 run to go up 30–17. Despite a late first-half surge from Life, capped by Payton’s second three-pointer to tie the game, Troy Dunn drained a buzzer-beater from beyond the arc to give Carey a 50–45 lead at halftime.

Life opened the second half on a 9–4 run to tie the game at 54, and the Running Eagles briefly led 57–54. Carey regained control as Malik Franklin hit a jumper and Makeem Roberts forced a turnover that led to a Dunn layup. The teams traded punches until Carey pulled ahead 74–73 with seven minutes remaining. The Crusaders then went on a 7–1 run, sealing the win with timely threes and forced turnovers.

Dunn led all scorers with 22 points. Franklin added 20, Anthony Robinson scored 14, Jenkins chipped in 13, and Randarius Hughes finished with 10. William Carey made 14 three-pointers and forced 15 turnovers in the victory. The Crusaders will play Dalton State College on Saturday in SSAC play.
