William Carey Tops LSU-Alexandria 8-1 in Non-Conference Baseball Game

Alexandria, La. — William Carey scored early and pulled away in the late innings to beat LSU-Alexandria 8-1 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday.

The Crusaders broke a scoreless tie in the third inning after an LSUA error. Alan McClean reached on a throwing error and later scored on Nic Arender’s pinch-hit RBI single to give WCU a 1-0 lead.

LSU-Alexandria responded in the bottom of the fourth. Landon Langley doubled down the left-field line and scored on Brett Batteford’s RBI single to tie the game at 1. That was the only run the Generals scored all afternoon.

William Carey regained the lead in the fifth when Hays Carley singled in Gage Hinnant. The Crusaders then broke the game open in the seventh with a four-run inning. Arender tripled to drive in a run, followed by Carley’s second RBI single. Taylor Walters capped the rally with a bases-clearing double, pushing the lead to 6-1.

The Crusaders added two more runs in the eighth inning after LSUA errors and a single by McClean. Cam Senior scored on a fielder’s choice, and McClean later crossed on another fielder’s choice, making it 8-1.

On the mound, starter Baise Lalonde and reliever Caleb Ougel combined to hold LSU-Alexandria to five hits and one run over nine innings. The Generals managed just two baserunners over the final four frames.

Carley finished with three hits and two RBIs, while Arender drove in three runs on two hits. William Carey will host Brewton-Parker on Friday at Milton Wheeler Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
