William Carey Sweeps Doubleheader With No-Hitter and Dominant Win Over Campbellsville

William Carey swept Campbellsville in a doubleheader Friday evening at Milton Wheeler Field, highlighted by a 14-2 victory and a combined no-hitter in the nightcap, school officials said.

The Crusaders jumped ahead early in the first game, using timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to build a commanding lead. Despite a strong start from the Campbellsville Tigers, William Carey scored 14 runs and limited the visitors to two. The Crusaders scored their first run in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly from Gage Hinnant after a throwing error put Tyler Ducksworth on base.

In the third inning, William Carey broke the game open. An RBI single from Hinnant and a two-run double from DeeJay Booth gave the Crusaders a 4-0 lead. Campbellsville responded in the fourth with a solo home run from Eli Musgraves, but Carey answered with a big rally in the bottom of the inning, extending the lead to 7-1. The Crusaders continued to pour it on in the fifth, pushing the score to 11-1 with timely hits from Nic Arender, Cam Senior, and Taylor Walters.

Musgraves hit his second solo shot in the sixth, trimming the deficit to 11-2. However, William Carey responded quickly, with leadoff doubles and RBI hits from Hinnant, Booth, and Jayden Mark, sealing the 14-2 victory.

In the second game, Carey’s pitching staff kept Campbellsville off balance, earning a 6-0 shutout. Starter Everett Thompson kept the Tigers at bay early, despite a walk and wild pitch in the first inning. Carey took the lead in the first inning with two bases-loaded walks and extended it in the second with RBI singles and a sacrifice fly. The Crusaders added two more runs in the fifth, highlighted by a double from Hays Carley and an RBI single from Arender.

Relievers Jackson Hawsey and Jimmie Johnson combined to retire the final nine Tiger batters in order, completing a combined no-hitter, according to school officials. William Carey is scheduled to face Campbellsville again Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Milton Wheeler Field.
