William Carey split doubleheader with Lindsey Wilson and Truett McConnell
William Carey opened its weekend schedule with a 6-3 loss to Lindsey Wilson before bouncing back with a 16-0 victory over Truett McConnell in Columbus, Georgia.
In the first game, Lindsey Wilson took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with back-to-back solo home runs from Emerson McKinnis and Kayden Rodgers. William Carey responded in the bottom of the third, with Brooklyn Montana and Caroline Lindsey driving in runs to give the Lady Crusaders a 3-2 lead.
However, Lindsey Wilson rallied in the sixth inning, tying the game on an RBI double from Aubrey Miller. The Blue Raiders then scored three more runs, including an unearned run and a second RBI double from McKinnis, to secure a 6-3 victory. William Carey threatened in the seventh, loading the bases, but Lindsey Wilson escaped with a strikeout.
The Lady Crusaders’ second game was a rout, winning 16-0 against Truett McConnell. The game started with three unearned runs in the first inning, aided by an error and a wild pitch. Jayden Sawyer’s solo homer in the second sparked a big inning, and William Carey added seven more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a grand slam from Kinley Hogue.
Carey continued to pour on runs in the fifth, with Sawyer hitting her second home run of the game. Sawyer was nearly perfect on the mound, tossing a no-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and only two baserunners. No Truett McConnell player advanced past second base. The Lady Crusaders are scheduled to play Freed-Hardeman and Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday.
