William Carey Secures Run-Rule Win Over Brewton Parker

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — William Carey beat Brewton Parker 11-1 in a run-rule game Friday night at Milton Wheeler Field. The Crusaders scored seven runs over the final three innings to break open the game, according to team reports.

Brewton Parker took an early lead in the first inning. Caleb Strott delivered an RBI single, scoring Zach Carlton after a pair of singles. The Barons led 1-0 before William Carey responded in the bottom half. Gage Hinnant singled, then scored on Jayden Mark’s sacrifice fly. Taylor Walters followed with an RBI double, giving the Crusaders a 2-1 lead.

After a scoreless second inning, William Carey extended its lead in the third. Nic Arender walked and later scored on a double by Mark. The Crusaders added another run in the fourth on Franklin Hernandez’s RBI single after Tyler Ducksworth reached base. In the fifth, William Carey scored twice following an error, with Hays Carley and Mark driving in runs. Sacrifice flies from Mark and Ducksworth in the same inning pushed the lead to 6-1.

The Crusaders continued their offensive surge in the sixth, scoring a run without a hit, using a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a sacrifice fly. In the seventh, William Carey scored four more runs. Cam Senior was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in a run, Hernandez added a sacrifice fly, and two wild pitches scored the final runs to end the game early under the run-rule.

Matthew Davis pitched seven innings, allowing only a few baserunners while striking out nine. Davis earned the win after settling in following the opening inning. William Carey is scheduled to conclude the series with a doubleheader beginning at noon Saturday at Milton Wheeler Field, according to team officials.
