William Carey and Louisiana Christian Split Midweek Softball Doubleheader

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — William Carey University and Louisiana Christian University split a softball doubleheader Tuesday at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field. The Wildcats won the first game 4-1, while the Lady Crusaders took the second 4-0.

Louisiana Christian broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning of game one. Lexi Broussard beat out an infield single, and a throwing error allowed Kaitlyn Roberts to score from second. Broussard advanced to third, and Christina Curtis drew a walk. Broussard scored on a single by Broussard, and Isabella Battaglia delivered a two-run single to extend the lead to 4-0.

William Carey threatened multiple times but was unable to score until the sixth inning. Caroline Lindsey doubled to start the inning, and pinch-runner Little Bittle scored on a single from Jayden Sawyer. The Lady Crusaders scored one more run in the inning, but the Wildcats held on, and Louisiana Christian closed out the game with a final out in the seventh.

In game two, William Carey opened the scoring in the second inning. Julia Shaw doubled to right field with two runners on, driving in two runs. The Lady Crusaders added two more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a bunt single from Anna Grace Shows that scored a runner from third.

William Carey’s pitching kept Louisiana Christian off the scoreboard in the second game. Sawyer pitched effectively, and the Wildcats’ defense prevented further damage, despite a leadoff single in the fourth inning. The Lady Crusaders will host Southeastern Florida on Saturday at noon in a doubleheader at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
