West Alabama rallies late to defeat Mississippi College 15-7
West Alabama scored eight runs over the final four innings to rally past Mississippi College 15-7 on Tuesday at Frierson Field. The Tigers improved to 29-8 with the win, while the Choctaws fell to 23-16, according to game reports.
Mississippi College took an early lead, jumping ahead with two runs in the first inning. Jake LaRocca hit a three-run home run following Cade Gadman scoring on a wild pitch. LaRocca finished with a season-high four RBIs. Creek Robertson added a solo shot in the second, putting the Choctaws ahead 4-4.
West Alabama responded quickly, scoring one in the third and two in the fourth to take a 7-5 advantage. The Choctaws closed the gap when Alex Johnson scored on a fielding error, making it 7-6. However, the Tigers pulled away late, scoring eight runs over the final four frames and limiting Mississippi College to just one run in that span.
Pitching was a challenge for the Choctaws, with Brady Ray suffering the loss after 2.2 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. Seven pitchers saw action in total for Mississippi College during the game.
Mississippi College is scheduled to host UAH on Friday, April 10, in the first game of a three-match series. First pitch is set for 5 p.m., according to team officials.
