Warriors sweep Tigers in doubleheader on Sophomore Day
The Warriors swept the Tigers in a doubleheader Saturday, winning 7-1 and 11-5. The games marked Sophomore Day at the ballpark.
In the first game, the Tigers started strong, preventing the Warriors from scoring in the first inning. However, the Warriors took the lead in the second inning on a double that scored a run. The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the third, but a solo home run by a Warrior in the fourth broke the tie. An error by the Tigers extended the Warriors’ lead to 3-1. The Tigers’ pitcher Herrington allowed three runs over six innings, striking out three, while Winter pitched five innings for the Warriors, allowing one run.
Greg Fore led the Tigers with one RBI, and Connor Timbs had two hits. L. Smith stole two bases, and the Tigers turned two double plays. The Warriors finished with nine hits in the first game.
In the second game, the Warriors scored two runs in the second inning, one on a long RBI and another on a groundout. The Tigers responded with four runs in the bottom of the second, including two on a single by West. The Warriors tied the game at three in the third with a home run, then took the lead in the fifth with six runs, capped by a two-RBI double. Bridgewater started for the Tigers, allowing nine hits and eight runs over four innings. Morrow pitched for the Warriors, giving up five hits and four runs in two innings.
For the Tigers, Baker and West each drove in two runs, and Walker, Massey, Baker, Fore, and West each had one hit. The Tigers committed no errors in the field, with Walker recording eight chances defensively.
