Wake Forest Edges Mississippi State in Old Barnwell Derby Match Play

AIKEN, S.C. — The No. 16 Mississippi State women’s golf team fell to No. 8 Wake Forest in the third-place match of the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play on Tuesday. The Bulldogs lost 3-1-1 after leading in four of the five matches early in the day, but couldn’t maintain their advantage.

Izzy Pellot earned the Bulldogs’ only victory, defeating C. Rujiranan 4&3. The win marked her third of the tournament, making her one of five players across the field to win all three matches she played.

Mississippi State is set to compete next at the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas, beginning March 23. Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com, according to the university.

In the match, Wake Forest’s M. Ketchum defeated Moa Stridh 1 UP, Ines Belchior tied A. Den Dunnen after 18 holes, and C. Kovelensky beat Samantha Whateley 5&4. M. Pate secured the win over Avery Weed, 3&1.
