W Golf Teams Finish Third at Hal Sutton Invitational
The W golf teams both finished third at the Centenary College/Hal Sutton Invitational held Monday and Tuesday at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City, Louisiana. The tournament featured seven women’s teams and 11 men’s teams.
The women’s team was led by junior Ashley Estabrook, who finished 15th with a two-round total of 174. Her rounds included an 85 and a 89. Three other MUW golfers tied for 16th place with scores of 175. Senior Sara Grace Ramey shot 88-87, junior Isabel Velasquez posted 91-84, and junior Addi Campbell scored 88-87. Senior Lindsey Reimsnyder finished 25th with a 184 total.
The men’s team was engaged in a tight battle atop the leaderboard, with the top three teams separated by only seven strokes. On Tuesday, MUW’s squad improved its second-round score, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the first-round deficit. The tournament’s weather was challenging, with rain and cold temperatures, but no players finished in red numbers overall.
Freshman Alexandre Thery led MUW on Tuesday, shooting a 70 — the third-lowest round of the tournament — after opening with a 79. His total of 149 moved him from a tie for 10th to fourth place. Junior Collin Jones, competing in his home state, finished fifth with a 150. Jones shot 73 on Monday but slipped after a 77 on Tuesday. Junior Bryce Denley tied for 17th with a 156, and other MUW players included Nicklaus Ledbetter (161), Daniel Martin (174), and several individuals who competed as well.
Weather conditions persisted throughout the event, but the teams managed to complete the tournament without any scores in red numbers. The W golf teams will next compete in upcoming events as they continue their season.
