Venezuelan Tennis Star Daniela Rodríguez Named NJCAA Rookie of the Year

RAYMOND, Miss. — Daniela Patricia López Rodríguez has achieved a major milestone in college tennis. The freshman at Hinds Community College was named the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rookie of the Year at the NJCAA Division I Women’s Tennis National Championship.

Rodríguez, originally from Venezuela, began playing tennis at age four. By 12, she was the top player in her city and country, earning sponsorships and representing her state. At 15, she moved to Spain to compete at a higher level, facing new challenges that strengthened her game and competitive spirit.

Her journey led her to Hinds Community College, where she has made an immediate impact. This season, she played a key role in her team’s success and earned recognition for her aggressive baseline play, court presence, and poise under pressure.

“Daniela maintains a high standard of excellence in athletics and academics,” said Hinds coach Millet. “Her commitment and leadership have been instrumental to our team’s success.”

Rodríguez expressed gratitude for her college experience, saying, “I am very grateful to Hinds for giving me the opportunity to pursue my dreams. The support from my team, coaches, and professors has helped me grow both as an athlete and a person.”

The award signifies more than personal achievement. It reflects years of dedication, early mornings, and unwavering belief in her goals, according to Rodríguez.
