Tylik Weeks Named First Team All-Sun Belt

NEW ORLEANS — Southern Miss junior forward Tylik Weeks was named First Team All-Sun Belt on Monday, as voted by league coaches, according to conference officials.

The New York native averaged 18.8 points per game this season and 20.1 points in Sun Belt play, ranking second in the conference behind Chaze Harris of South Alabama, who was named Sun Belt Player of the Year.

Weeks also averaged 5.8 rebounds per game over 30 contests, with 5.3 rebounds in 18 conference games. He scored in double figures 28 times, including a streak of 21 consecutive games — the second-longest in program history behind Wendell Ladner’s 22-game stretch during the 1968-69 season.

He recorded 14 20-point games and had two 30-point outings. His season-high was 37 points against North Florida at the Pensacola Invitational. He also scored 32 points against Troy on Feb. 14, including 16 consecutive points for Southern Miss during the game.

Weeks became the first player in school history to score 30 points in a single half without overtime. He also posted double-doubles against Ole Miss and Kent State, with a career-high 11 rebounds in the win over Kent State.

He shot 47% from the field, ranking seventh in league play, and 82% from the free-throw line. Weeks was named Sun Belt Player of the Week on Nov. 25 after scoring 37 off the bench against North Florida and contributing 14 points and seven rebounds in the conference tournament title game against UT Martin.

He led the league in free throws made and attempts. His 18.8 points per game is the highest for Southern Miss since Gary Flowers’ 18.8 in the 2010-11 season. The last Golden Eagle to average more was Elvin Mims, with 18.9 in 2001-02.

Southern Miss will open the Sun Belt Tournament on Thursday at 5 p.m., facing either James Madison, Louisiana, or Georgia State in the third round.
