Troy Men’s Tennis Sweeps Alcorn in Nonconference Match

Troy’s men’s tennis team earned a 7-0 victory over Alcorn State on Sunday at Halls Ferry Tennis Courts in Vicksburg, Mississippi, according to school officials. The Trojans improved to 15-4 with the win, while Alcorn dropped to 3-15.

The Trojans took the doubles point with victories in all three matches. Ryusei Miyazato and Stephan Tavares Noale defeated Tomas Grime and Jorge Prats Navarrette 6-1 in No. 3 doubles. Luciano Alcocer and Yeray Andres Pastor beat Matthew Holl and Vicent Llobell Buigues 6-4, while Henrique de Brito and Thiago Drozdowski edged Griffiths and Fabian Juarez 7-5.

In singles, Troy secured all six points. Yeray Andres Pastor defeated Buigues 6-0, 6-1, and Miyazato topped Juarez 6-1, 6-0. Hiiro Sakamoto beat Grime 6-2, 6-2, while Louis Boilevin defeated Prats Navarrete 6-2, 6-1. Luciano Alcocer won in straight sets over Holl, 6-1, 6-2. The most competitive singles match featured Alcorn’s Sebastian Griffiths, who forced a second-set tiebreak against Troy’s Ausias Martin Melo before losing 6-2, 7-6(1).

Alcorn is set to begin Southwestern Athletic Conference play next weekend, traveling to Montgomery, Alabama, to face Southern and Alabama A&M at the SWAC Men’s Pod #1 hosted by Alabama State on March 28-29, according to team officials.
