Trinity holds off Millsaps in close men’s basketball game
The Millsaps College men’s basketball team came up just short against Trinity University, falling 73-69 Sunday inside the Hangar Dome.
The Majors mounted a second-half rally, scoring 42 points and forcing 17 steals, but Trinity’s 18 made free throws and 22 fast-break points proved decisive.
Senior Caleb Kent led Millsaps with 15 points and a season-high 10 rebounds, adding three steals. Junior Cameron Lumar scored 15 points and recorded four steals. Freshman Luke LeFors contributed nine points, including three three-pointers, while junior David Combest Jr. added nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The game started with Millsaps taking an early lead, sparked by a layup and dunk from Kent. Jaxon Toney pushed the advantage further with an and-one layup and free throw, giving the Majors an 11-5 lead. Trinity responded, tying the game at 20 midway through the first half and taking a 33-27 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Millsaps opened with a quick layup from Toney. Trinity then went on an 11-0 run to build a 14-point lead. The Majors kept fighting, with LeFors hitting three straight three-pointers to cut the deficit to 56-47 with 9:16 remaining. Lumar’s late three-pointer helped narrow the gap further, but Trinity maintained its lead through free throws. The game ended with the Tigers ahead 73-69.
