Trinity holds off Millsaps 79-64 in Texas men’s basketball game
The Millsaps College men’s basketball team fell to Trinity University 79-64 Sunday inside the Bell Center in San Antonio. The Majors, who are 12-9 overall and 3-7 in the Southern Athletic Association, outrebounded Trinity 40-29 but could not overcome a 15-point deficit.
Trinity, with a 17-5 record and a 9-2 conference mark, capitalized on 28 points off turnovers to secure the victory. Senior Caleb Kent led Millsaps with 16 points, making six of 10 shots and recording two steals. Junior Davion James added 10 points, including two three-pointers, and also had two steals. Senior Dakota Gasca contributed three points and three steals, while junior Jaxon Toney finished with eight rebounds and eight points, converting all four free throws.
The game started strong for Millsaps, with James hitting a three-pointer early. A steal and three-pointer from junior Cameron Lumar at 17:28 helped the Majors maintain an early lead. The first half featured multiple ties and lead changes, with Kent’s jumper at 10:03 giving Millsaps a brief advantage. Trinity responded with a run to take the lead at halftime, ending 39-35.
In the second half, Millsaps’s defense was active early, with seven steals in the opening minutes. Rodney Phillips Jr. scored a layup at 17:48, keeping the visitors within reach. However, Trinity pushed its lead through fast breaks and second-chance opportunities. Kent’s late tip-in and free throw with 42 seconds remaining cut the deficit slightly, but the Tigers maintained control to win by 15 points.
