Toppers fall in double-overtime thriller against Firehawks

Pulaski, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Saturday, forcing double overtime before falling 94-93 to Tennessee Southern in an SSAC men’s basketball game at the Curry Athletic Complex.

Tennessee Southern controlled much of the early action, building momentum with efficient offensive possessions and creating separation as the game went on. Despite falling behind, the Toppers stayed composed, continuing to execute on both ends of the floor while searching for ways to swing the game in their favor.

Blue Mountain Christian began to shift momentum late in regulation, finding rhythm offensively and applying increased defensive pressure. The Toppers chipped away at the lead, answering key baskets and making timely stops to force overtime and extend the game beyond regulation.

Senior guard Gavin Shannon led the comeback effort with a team-high 31 points, providing consistent scoring and leadership throughout all five periods. Michael Hill added 23 points, attacking the defense and converting critical baskets to help push the game into extra periods. Jonathan Baker contributed 12 points inside, while Chris Tackett scored 11 off the bench during the comeback and in overtime.

Neither team could break through during the first overtime, sending the game to a second extra period. Tennessee Southern scored late in the second overtime to secure the one-point victory. The Toppers will host ABAC for senior night at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
