Texas Southern Sweeps Series Against Alcorn with 10-1 Win

Lorman, Miss. — Texas Southern completed a sweep of its three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series with a 10-1 victory over Alcorn on Saturday at the Alcorn Softball Complex.

Jade McQueen led the Tigers’ offense, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and two stolen bases. She sparked a four-run second inning with a solo shot to right center. Texas Southern’s offense totaled 12 hits and scored in four of five innings, building a commanding lead early.

Danielle Durr added a double and two RBIs, while Katelynn Cooper and Marisa Perla each contributed two-hit performances with an RBI apiece. The Tigers extended their lead with two runs in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth to seal the win.

Melonie Guardiola pitched all five innings for Texas Southern, allowing three hits and one run, walking one and striking out one to improve to 3-1 this season. Alcorn’s only run came in the fifth inning when Adriyana Ruffin hit a two-out triple to bring home Jamyiyah Cotten.

Alcorn starter Chiara Olison took the loss, falling to 7-15 after allowing four runs on five hits in two innings. The Braves managed just three hits in the game.
