HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Tucker Stockman hit a single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Southern Miss to a 2-1 win over Ole Miss Tuesday night at Pete Taylor Park. The Golden Eagles improved to 15-2 with their fourth consecutive victory, while the Rebels fell to 15-3.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the ninth, Davis Gillespie singled off Ole Miss reliever JP Robertson to start the inning. After a pair of outs, Ole Miss turned to Landon Koenig, who issued a walk to Stockman. On a 2-2 pitch, Stockman delivered the game-winning hit, scoring Gillespie and giving Southern Miss the win, according to team officials.

Southern Miss’s Thomas Crabtree pitched three scoreless innings in relief. The only runs scored in the game came in the fifth inning, when Tristan Bissetta homered for Ole Miss and Kyle Morrison responded with a solo shot for Southern Miss, his sixth of the season.

In the ninth, Ole Miss threatened with a hit by pitch and a walk with one out, but Southern Miss closer Camden Clark came in and recorded a strikeout and a flyout to end the inning. Clark earned the victory, improving to 3-0, while Robertson took the loss, falling to 2-1.

Southern Miss’s pitching staff struck out nine Rebels and allowed only one hit and one walk. Stockman was the only player with two hits, as the Golden Eagles outhit Ole Miss 6-3. The teams will meet again this weekend in Arkansas for Sun Belt Conference play, starting Friday at 6 p.m.
