Spalding beats William Carey women’s basketball 80-57

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — William Carey University’s women’s basketball team lost its third consecutive conference game, dropping an 80-57 decision at Spalding University on Thursday night at Columbia Gym.

The Golden Eagles led wire-to-wire, holding a 39-24 advantage at halftime. Spalding outshot William Carey from beyond the arc, connecting 12 times compared to six for the Owls. The Eagles also dominated the boards, grabbing 61 rebounds to the Owls’ 35, which led to 17 second-chance points and 34 in the paint.

William Carey’s only player in double figures was senior Conley Langford, who scored 22 points. She went 6-for-17 from the floor, including two three-pointers, and was 7-for-9 at the free throw line. Langford also contributed seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Fellow senior Mia Bowen, returning from a leg injury and limited to 28 minutes, scored eight points and tied her own school record with seven blocks, giving her a season total of 70.

Rhianna Dinkins came off the bench to add nine points and six rebounds, while freshman Jakayla Smith scored eight points in the loss. Spalding’s rebounding dominance translated into 17 second-chance points and 34 points in the paint.

The Owls will return home Thursday to face Blackburn College at 5:30 p.m., according to team officials.
