Southwest Mississippi Softball Falls to Northwest in Doubleheader
Southwest Mississippi Softball traveled to Senatobia on Friday to face Northwest in a doubleheader. The Lady Bears lost both games, falling 6-4 and 11-3, according to team reports.
In the first game, Allie Ladnier pitched all six innings, recording five strikeouts. Corin Talbot and Bailey McLin led the team with two hits each. Jana Phillips, Tristan Allen, and Ladnier each had one hit. Allen’s home run marked her 14th of the season, continuing her school record run for the single-season home run total. Talbot also contributed with two doubles, and Madalyn Ashford and Lauryn Roebuck stole bases.
Southwest suffered the loss in game one despite a strong offensive showing. In game two, Ballard Kraft started on the mound, followed by Mary Claire Salley, who pitched 5.1 innings with two strikeouts. Salley was credited with the loss. Alexis Dejean led the team with two hits and two RBIs. Other contributors included Corin Talbot, Bailey McLin, Jana Phillips, and Madalyn Ashford, each with a hit. Dejean and Phillips each doubled, and Hannah Adams stole a base. The Lady Bears fell 11-3 in the second game.
With the doubleheader losses, Southwest Mississippi’s record dropped to 23-9 overall and 10-6 in conference. The team is scheduled to travel to Perkinston on Tuesday to face Mississippi Gulf Coast.
