Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears lose final road game of season

Shanell Celestine reported that Southwest Mississippi Women’s Basketball traveled to Meridian on Thursday, February 26, and lost to the Meridian Community College Eagles 65-45. It was the Lady Bears’ final road game of the season.

The game started slowly, with Mercedes Dorsey opening with four straight points for Southwest. The Lady Bears led 9-7 after the first quarter, but Meridian took control in the second, outscoring Southwest 15-6 to lead 24-15 at halftime.

Gracie Miller scored to open the second half, but the Eagles maintained their momentum. Despite a 6-0 run near the end of the third quarter, Southwest trailed 42-30 entering the final period. The Lady Bears struggled offensively in the fourth, unable to keep pace with Meridian.

Keyona Royal led Southwest with nine points. Mercedes Dorsey and Mady Smith added six points each. The Lady Bears, with a record of 7-19 overall and 3-10 in conference, will play their final home game Monday against Jones Community College.
