Southwest Mississippi Baseball wins three walk-off games in series against Alvin Community College
Southwest Mississippi Baseball swept a three-game series against Alvin Community College on February 12 and 13, winning each contest with a walk-off hit. The Bears improved to 7-2 with the victories.
In the series opener Thursday, Southwest edged Alvin 5-4 in a game that went down to the final at-bat. Andrew Hoff started on the mound, allowing five hits over three innings. Relievers Konnor Cazenave, Will McLeod, and Dom Smith followed, with Smith recording four strikeouts. Nik Carney earned the win after closing out the game.
The game was tied 4-4 entering the bottom of the ninth. Luke Simmons opened with a double, and Jonathan Miller sacrificed him to third. With two outs, Tanner Moore singled to right, scoring Simmons and winning the game for the Bears. JD Hidalgo led offensively with three hits, while Moore and Drew Swan added two each. Moore and Hidalgo also drove in a run apiece.
The series continued Friday with a 4-3, 10-inning victory. Rhyson Carroway pitched seven strong innings, striking out seven. Nik Carney picked up the win in relief. The Bears scored twice in the first three innings, including a run on a JD Hidalgo double. The game remained tied until the bottom of the tenth, when Jonathan Miller executed a perfect bunt to score Luke Simmons from third for the walk-off win. Simmons had two hits, including his game-winning run.
In the final game, Southwest routed Alvin 13-3 by run rule. Justin Domiano led the offensive attack with three hits and three RBIs. Robbie Hokamp and Tanner Moore each had two hits. Cam Bolden, Sam Tumminello, and others contributed offensively. Domiano, Hokamp, and Moore stole two bases each, helping to facilitate the Bears’ aggressive base running. Cam Bolden’s single in the sixth scored Tee Robinson to activate the run rule.
Head Coach Jack Edmonson praised his team’s resilience and execution, noting, “Those were three really tough games. I was proud of the desire to win we showed and the execution in big moments. Our offense is starting to come around as guys get more at-bats. We are looking forward to continuing to build each game.”
The Bears will travel to Perkinston on Tuesday to face Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Holmes Community College in a doubleheader.
