Southwest Mississippi Baseball Sweeps Hinds in Doubleheader
Southwest Mississippi Baseball traveled to Raymond on Wednesday, April 1, and swept Hinds in a doubleheader. The Bears won the games 6-5 and 4-3, according to team reports.
In game one, Camp Segrest made his first start of the season, pitching two innings with one strikeout and no runs allowed. Brian Hankinson followed with 2.1 innings and three strikeouts. Wyatt Garrett pitched three innings, earning the win, while Dom Smith finished with 1.2 innings and a save.
The Bears fell behind early, trailing 5-1 after five innings. Their only run in that stretch came from Tanner Moore, who scored on an error. Southwest rallied in the sixth, scoring four runs to tie the game at 5-5. Landon French singled to start the inning, and Tristain Haynes cleared the bases with a double, driving in three runs. In the seventh, Justin Domiano scored on Hayes Loper’s single to give the Bears a 6-5 lead. Southwest held on to win, with Haynes leading the team with two doubles and three RBIs.
In game two, Rhyson Carroway pitched all seven innings, allowing three hits and striking out eight. The Bears trailed 3-2 entering the final inning but scored twice in the top of the seventh. Tanner Moore led off with a double, and Justin Domiano’s single tied the game. Hayes Loper then doubled, scoring Domiano to put Southwest ahead 4-3. Carroway closed out the game in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory.
Coach Jack Edmonson praised his team’s resilience, noting that winning two one-run games away from home against a strong Hinds team demonstrates their toughness. The Bears improved to 23-15 overall and 7-7 in conference play. They are scheduled to host Northwest on Friday, April 3, for a conference doubleheader.
