Talen Boyd followed with three innings and two strikeouts, and closer Dom Smith finished with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts to earn the win. The game was tied 2-2 after two innings, with the Bears scoring on a groundout and a single by Luke Simmons. Delgado took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for Southwest’s walk-off. Tristain Haynes opened the inning with a single, then stole third and scored on a bunt by JD Hidalgo to tie the game. With Hidalgo stealing third and two outs, Justin Domiano singled to right field to score Hidalgo and give the Bears a 5-4 victory. Domiano finished with three hits, including the game-winning single. Hidalgo, Haynes, Hayes Loper, and Luke Simmons each had one hit, while Hidalgo, Haynes, and Simmons stole bases.
Head coach Jack Edmonson praised his team’s resilience, noting, “Toughness is obvious with this group. They continue to play every game until the last out. We’ve been in a bind because of injuries the past two weeks, but our guys keep stepping up and I’m proud of them for that.” The Bears, now 16-7, are scheduled to travel to Poplarville on Tuesday to face Pearl River in a doubleheader.
