Southern Miss Women’s Tennis Travels to Troy for Saturday Conference Match

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The University of Southern Mississippi women’s tennis team will compete in a Sun Belt Conference match Saturday against Troy University in Troy, Alabama, with first serve scheduled for 10 a.m., according to school officials.

The Golden Eagles enter the match with a 7-6 record overall and a 1-1 mark in conference play. They are coming off a successful four-match road swing, capped by a 4-0 victory over Southern in Baton Rouge. In that match, Southern Miss secured doubles wins from Angelina Blinova and Sakura Sudo, as well as Hannah Chambers and Miranda Xu. The team also earned singles victories from Blinova, Kamornwan Kornsila, and Mia Hisashi-Morrissey.

Southern Miss remains in the middle of the Sun Belt standings. Troy, with an 8-6 overall record and a 3-1 conference record, enters Saturday on a four-match winning streak. The Trojans are looking to extend their success against the Golden Eagles.

Southern Miss plans to rely on its current lineup, which has delivered key performances throughout the spring season. Sudo recently earned the program’s first Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor after clinching both the doubles point and the overall match in a 4-3 home win over Georgia Southern earlier this month.

Following Saturday’s match, the Golden Eagles will return home for matches against New Orleans on April 1 and Tulane on April 7, as they continue to vie for positioning in the Sun Belt standings.
