Southern Miss Women’s Tennis Prepares for Four-Match Road Swing
The University of Southern Mississippi women’s tennis team will play four consecutive matches on the road, beginning Saturday in Lafayette, Louisiana. The Golden Eagles face Louisiana at Cajun Courts at 10 a.m., looking to build on their recent 4-3 victory over Georgia Southern.
Southern Miss improved to 6-3 overall after the win, with Sakura Sudo earning Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors — the first in program history. The team then travels to San Antonio on Tuesday to face UTSA at 1 p.m., followed by a Thursday match against Southern in Baton Rouge and a Saturday showdown with Mississippi State in Starkville.
Mississippi State, ranked No. 46 in the latest ITA standings, holds a 35-3 advantage in the all-time series against Southern Miss, including a 4-1 win in their last meeting in 2022. The Bulldogs represent the toughest challenge of the trip.
The team will be led by head coach Piyanart Engineer and assistant coach Abhijeet Tiwari, with players including Hannah Chambers, Gagana Mohan Kumar, Sakura Sudo, Miranda Xu, Kamornwan Kornsila, Pimmada Lim, Mia Hasashi-Morrissey, Celine Mosteanu, Angelina Blinova, and Manulla Persson.
This stretch of matches offers Southern Miss a chance to build on recent success and test their skills against multiple opponents before returning to Sun Belt play later this month, according to program officials.
