Southern Miss Women’s Tennis Opens Spring with 2-1 Homestand
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The University of Southern Mississippi women’s tennis team opened its spring season with a three-match home stand, finishing with a 2-1 record. The Golden Eagles defeated Jackson State 4-3, lost to Sam Houston 4-2, and beat Lamar 4-1, according to team reports.
Southern Miss started strong, earning a 4-3 win over Jackson State. The team secured the doubles point with wins from Hannah Chambers and Miranda Xu, as well as Sakura Sudo and Kamornwan Kornsila. In singles, Angelina Blinova, Kornsila, and Xu all secured wins to clinch the team victory, the program said.
On Saturday, the Golden Eagles again took the doubles point against Sam Houston, with victories from Blinova, Sudo, Mia Hisashi-Morrissey, and Pimmada Lim. Despite the Bearkats winning four singles matches, Gagana Mohan Kumar earned a straight-sets win for Southern Miss, according to the team.
Southern Miss concluded the homestand Monday with a 4-1 win over Lamar. The team combined doubles victories from Chambers and Xu, and Blinova and Sudo. In singles, Blinova, Sudo, and Mohan Kumar contributed wins to finish the weekend on a high note, the team added.
The Golden Eagles are set to host McNeese State on Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. and Florida A&M on Feb. 22 at 12 p.m. in Hattiesburg, Miss., the team announced.
