Southern Miss Women’s Tennis Ends Regular Season with Split on Road

Thibodaux, La. — Southern Miss women’s tennis wrapped up its regular season with a split weekend on the road. The Golden Eagles fell 4-1 at UAB on Friday before narrowly losing 4-3 to Nicholls on Sunday, according to team officials.

Southern Miss (8-9, 1-2 SBC) managed to secure a point in Birmingham when Angelina Blinova defeated Kristyna Damaskova in three sets. However, UAB claimed the doubles point and won three singles matches to clinch the victory.

In Birmingham, UAB took the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Blinova and Sakura Sudo’s match on court two was left unfinished. UAB then added singles wins on courts three, four, and five, with Blinova earning the lone point for Southern Miss at No. 1 singles.

On Sunday at Nicholls, the Golden Eagles started strong, winning the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. Hannah Chambers and Miranda Xu defeated Blanca Losada and Noemie Piquet, while Kamornwan Kornsila and Pimmada Lim beat Julia Bordiginon and Jada Iverson.

Despite losing four singles matches, Southern Miss kept the team match competitive. Lim and Kornsila both earned singles wins at the bottom of the lineup, but Nicholls secured the overall team victory with wins on the top four courts.

Southern Miss now prepares for the Sun Belt Championships in Rome, Georgia, beginning April 22, where the team will look to make a deep run in the postseason.
