Southern Miss Women’s Tennis Completes Four-Match Road Swing
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The Southern Miss women’s tennis team finished a four-match road trip with a 1-3 record, according to school officials. The Golden Eagles lost to Louisiana and UTSA by 4-0 scores but defeated Southern 4-0. They concluded the swing with a 4-0 defeat at Mississippi State.
The trip began in Lafayette, where Louisiana secured the doubles point and earned singles wins on courts three, five, and six. The match was clinched before play finished on remaining courts, with Angelina Blinova and Sakura Sudo tied 5-5 at No. 1 doubles, and Miranda Xu and Gagana Mohan Kumar’s singles matches unfinished.
Southern Miss traveled to San Antonio next, where UTSA took the doubles point and won singles on courts one, three, and five. Several matches were still competitive when the match ended, including Sudo’s first-set tiebreak at No. 2 singles and Xu’s unfinished match on court four.
The team responded strongly at Baton Rouge, sweeping Southern 4-0. They took the doubles point with wins from Blinova and Sudo at No. 1 and Chambers and Xu at No. 2. In singles, Blinova won in straight sets, Kornsila won on court four, and Mia Hisashi-Morrissey finished the match at No. 6 to complete the shutout.
The road trip wrapped up at Mississippi State, where the Bulldogs earned a 4-0 win. Despite the losses, Southern Miss demonstrated resilience, bouncing back from back-to-back defeats with their victory over Southern. The team’s lone win was powered by singles victories from Blinova, Kornsila, and Hisashi-Morrissey.
The Golden Eagles now prepare for their next match, scheduled for March 28 at Troy in a conference road game, according to officials.
