The Southern Miss women’s golf team is in fifth place after opening the first round of the More Than Golf Invitational at Old Barnwell Golf Course in Aiken, South Carolina, according to live scoring updates.
Louise Cuyvers led the Golden Eagles with an even-par 73, tying her for fifth on the individual leaderboard. Cuyvers recorded four birdies and overcame a double bogey before finishing strong with two birdies on the back nine.
Liv Romer shot a 74, finishing one stroke behind Cuyvers. Romer had birdies on both the front and back nines. Savannah Van Gaalen and Fernanda Gorostiaga each posted a 78, while Taylor Trible scored a 79. Van Gaalen, after a double bogey and back-to-back bogeys, eagled hole 15 and birdied hole seven, starting her round on the 10th hole.
Columbia leads the field at one-under par. Tulsa, Denver, Radford, and Southern Miss follow in the top five. Cuyvers trails Columbia’s Kristina Xu by four strokes. Trible is set to tee off at 9:30 a.m. Monday, with the rest of the team following in 10-minute intervals.
