Southern Miss Volleyball Heads to Stetson Spring Invitational
The University of Southern Mississippi women’s volleyball team is scheduled to compete in the Stetson Spring Invitational in DeLand, Florida, from March 13-14, according to the school’s athletics department.
The Golden Eagles, with a 3-9 record this season, will play five matches against UAB, No. 15 Stetson, Texas A&M–Corpus Christi, Florida Gulf Coast, and North Alabama. Their opening match is against UAB on March 13 at 7:30 a.m. Central Time.
UAB, holding a 7-6 record, enters the tournament after a 1-3 run at the Long Beach Invitational. The Blazers lost to No. 11 Long Beach State, Santa Clara, and Loyola Marymount, but beat Cal State Bakersfield. Head coach Delaney Clesen is in her third season with a 47-33 record.
Southern Miss trails UAB historically, with an 1-8 all-time record. The last win came on April 23, 2021. The teams haven’t played since April 13, 2024.
The Golden Eagles face No. 15 Stetson later on March 13 at 1:45 p.m. CT. Stetson, with an 11-5 record, split four matches at the Long Beach Invitational. The Hatters are coached by Kristina Hernandez, in her 11th season, with a career record of 223-114.
Southern Miss has not defeated Stetson in the past two meetings, including a 3-2 loss last season at Georgia State. The teams previously played twice in 2024, with Stetson winning both encounters.
On Saturday, the Golden Eagles will face Texas A&M–Corpus Christi at 7 a.m. CT. The Islanders hold a 6-7 record and lead the all-time series 6-0. The match will be followed by games against Florida Gulf Coast at noon and North Alabama at 2:30 p.m. CT. Florida Gulf Coast, with a 6-6 record, is seeking its first win over Southern Miss, trailing 3-0 in the series.
North Alabama, with a 6-4 record, last played Southern Miss in 2024, winning 3-2. The Lions are returning after a weekend off and aim to improve their all-time series advantage.
