Southern Miss Volleyball Heads to FSU Challenge in Tallahassee
The University of Southern Mississippi volleyball team travels to Tallahassee, Florida, for the two-day FSU Challenge at Florida State’s Seminole Beach Volleyball Courts, according to the school’s athletics department.
Southern Miss, with a 10-15 record and a 3-1 mark in the Sun Belt Conference, will face No. 8 Loyola Marymount and Jacksonville on Friday, April 3, and then face No. 5 Florida State and Jacksonville again on Saturday, April 4. The Golden Eagles open against Loyola Marymount, which has won eight straight matches since losing to No. 5 Texas on March 13. Loyola Marymount posted a 4-0 record at the Mid-Season WCC Invitational last weekend and currently leads the West Coast Conference standings. The Lions finished as runners-up in the 2025 NCAA Championships with a 38-7 record, according to the school.
Southern Miss has never beaten Loyola Marymount in six previous matches, with their last meeting on March 7, 2025, in Los Angeles. The teams will face off again Friday at 10:15 a.m. Central Time.
Jacksonville, which holds a 14-10 record, enters the weekend on a four-match winning streak after winning all four duals at their River City Invitational last weekend. The Dolphins and Golden Eagles previously met in 2021, with Southern Miss winning 5-0 in Columbia, South Carolina. The teams will meet twice this weekend.
On Saturday, Southern Miss will face host and No. 5 Florida State, which has compiled a 22-1 record this season. The Seminoles’ only loss came against No. 7 TCU on Feb. 28. Florida State has won 13 consecutive duals since then and posted a 4-0 record last weekend, defeating Boise State, No. 20 Arizona, and No. 7 TCU. The team finished last season with a 26-13 record and reached the NCAA Tournament’s second round, according to the school.
Florida State leads the all-time series 6-0, including a 4-1 victory over Southern Miss last season in Hattiesburg. The weekend’s match schedule includes duals between Florida State and Jacksonville, Loyola Marymount and Jacksonville, and Southern Miss and Jacksonville, among others.
