Southern Miss Softball’s Hannah Christian Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss softball sophomore outfielder Hannah Christian has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Christian, a Hoover, Alabama native, went 9-for-14 at the plate over four games, posting a .643 batting average. She drove in six RBIs and hit her second home run of the season in a game Sunday when the Golden Eagles set a program record with six home runs in a single game.

Her performance helped Southern Miss secure a 2-1 series win over Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina, moving the team into second place in the conference standings. Head coach Natalie Poole praised Christian’s consistency and approach, saying she “continues to get better and better this season.”

Poole added that Christian “came out strong against UNCG and then continued having great at-bats all weekend,” highlighting her readiness, adaptability, and confidence at the plate. The Alabama native ranks among the top five in the nation with 51 hits, is fifth in the Sun Belt with a .438 batting average, and is among the conference leaders in doubles, stolen bases, and RBIs.

Southern Miss is scheduled to play Nicholls in Hattiesburg on March 25 at 6 p.m., with the game streaming on ESPN+. Fans can follow the team on Facebook, X, and Instagram for updates.
