Southern Miss Softball Wins Series Finale Against Georgia Southern 2-1

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss softball defeated Georgia Southern 2-1 in the final game of their series Sunday afternoon at the Southern Miss Softball Complex. The Golden Eagles secured the win with a walk-off single from Chloe Miller in the bottom of the seventh inning, completing a series sweep.

Kayla Giardina pitched her third consecutive complete game to earn the victory, allowing only four hits and no walks. She faced just seven batters in the first two innings and kept Georgia Southern’s offense in check throughout the game.

Southern Miss took an early lead in the bottom of the seventh. Madison Johnson singled with one out, and Jolie Hays successfully sacrificed her to second. Kinsley Gordon-Sivley then tripled to left-center, driving in Johnson and tying the game at one. Miller delivered the walk-off single, sneaking past the second baseman to score Gordon-Sivley from third.

Georgia Southern scored in the top of the seventh on a double by Emma Davis, which was followed by a sacrifice fly from Davis that brought in the run. The Eagles managed four hits overall but could not overcome Giardina’s pitching.

Southern Miss improved to 29-17 overall and 10-5 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Georgia Southern fell to 19-22 and 6-9 in league play. The Golden Eagles have now gone three straight games without allowing an earned run, their first under head coach Natalie Poole.
