Southern Miss Softball Wins 5-2 Over Alcorn State After Early Lead
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss softball defeated Alcorn State 5-2 Tuesday at the Southern Miss Softball Complex. The Golden Eagles built an early lead and maintained it through the game, improving to 14-8 overall.
Abbi Troquille led Southern Miss with two RBIs on two hits while extending her multi-hit streak to four games. Madilyn Graham earned the win, improving to 4-1 after pitching four innings of relief, including a key scoreless inning in the fifth.
Kayla Giardina started for the Golden Eagles and retired the first nine batters before giving up her first hit in the fifth inning. She allowed two runs on two hits in the inning but finished strong, with Graham closing out the game with a strikeout in the seventh.
Southern Miss scored two runs in the first inning, with Jolie Hays hitting an RBI chopper and Chloe Miller adding an RBI on a fielder’s choice. The Eagles added to their lead in the fifth, with Madison Johnson, Hannah Christian, and Troquille each contributing singles and RBIs. Troquille’s second RBI in the inning brought Julia Glasgow home, sealing the victory.
The win marked the Eagles’ sixth straight at home, a streak last achieved in 2025. Troquille has now recorded four consecutive multi-hit games. The team remains nationally ranked in fielding with a 0.981 percentage and is tied for second in SAC flies with 15.
