Southern Miss Softball Visits Nicholls for Midweek Game

The University of Southern Mississippi softball team will travel to Thibodaux, Louisiana, for a midweek matchup against Nicholls State on Wednesday. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Swanner Field at Geo Surfaces Park.

Southern Miss enters the game with a 7-8 record, while Nicholls holds a 9-3 mark. The Golden Eagles trail the series against the Colonels 6-3, with Southern Miss losing their most recent series to Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana, over the weekend, according to school officials.

Southern Miss is among the top teams in the Sun Belt Conference, leading in triples with seven, SAC flies with nine, and boasting a .980 fielding percentage. Nealy McManus is tied for the conference lead with three SAC flies and ranks seventh in doubles with five. She also has 15 RBIs, placing her ninth in the Sun Belt. Madison Johnson is tied for first in the league with three triples.

Nationally, McManus ranks third with 47 assists and fifth with SAC hits. Kayla Giardina leads the Sun Belt with five hit-by-pitches and is tied for 55th nationally with one shutout. Abigail Morgan is 52nd nationally with one save. Southern Miss is tied for ninth in the nation in triples and eighth in SAC flies.

The series history favors Southern Miss, which leads 14-13 in the all-time matchup that began in 2006. The Golden Eagles are 3-6 when playing in Thibodaux, with their last road win coming in 2021. Over the past 10 matchups since 2019, Southern Miss has a 7-3 record. The largest margin of victory was a 9-1 win in 2011, while the closest game ended 3-2 in 2015.
