Southern Miss Softball to Face UNC Greensboro in Midweek Game

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss softball (20-11, 2-1 Sun Belt Conference) will play UNC Greensboro (18-12, 0-0 Southern Conference) on Wednesday in Greensboro, North Carolina. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. Central Time at UNCG Softball Stadium.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the programs. Southern Miss is coming off its first three-game series victory over Louisiana, which included a five-inning run rule in the series finale Sunday to open Sun Belt play.

The Golden Eagles lead the Sun Belt in triples (10), walks (125), sacrifice flies (25), and fielding percentage (.979). They rank second in hits (250), second in on-base percentage (.417), second in sacrifice hits (21), third in doubles (45), tied for third in shutouts (5), and fourth in RBIs (149).

Several players rank nationally. Kayla Giardina is tied for fourth in the nation with two hit-by-pitches and is 16th in games started (14). Abbi Troquille is 11th in hit-by-pitches (11). Nealy McManus is eighth in assists (73), Kayce Bennett is tied for 29th in runners caught stealing (7), and Hannah Christian is tied for 16th and leads the Sun Belt in hits (44). Madison Johnson, McManus, and Troquille are all tied for 37th in sacrifice flies (3).

The game against UNC Greensboro marks the beginning of a busy weekend for the Golden Eagles, who will face Appalachian State in a three-game series from March 20-22. Fans can follow the team on Facebook, X, and Instagram for updates.
