Southern Miss Softball Falls to Troy 10-2 in Series Finale
Tro y, Ala. — Southern Miss softball (25-14, Sun Belt 6-3) was defeated by Troy (22-12, Sun Belt 4-5) 10-2 in six innings Sunday at Troy Softball Complex, concluding the series.
Madison Johnson led the Golden Eagles with her third home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth inning. Kayla Giardina pitched five innings for Southern Miss, falling to an 11-5 record after taking the loss.
Both pitchers, Giardina and Troy’s Abby Lovell, kept the game scoreless through the first two innings. Troy broke through in the fifth, with Ella Cunningham hitting a three-run homer to give the Trojans a 3-2 lead. Troy then exploded for seven runs in the sixth, aided by multiple hits and an error by Southern Miss.
The Trojans’ offensive surge included a double from Mia Tidmore that cleared the bases and sealed the game’s outcome. Troy’s Brooklyn White pitched in during the sixth, while Southern Miss attempted to rally but was unable to overcome the deficit.
