Southern Miss Men’s Tennis Splits Final Regular Season Weekend
The University of Southern Mississippi men’s tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a split of two matches in Louisiana. The Golden Eagles lost 4-1 to Louisiana on Saturday before earning a 4-0 victory over Nicholls State on Sunday, according to team statistics and match reports.
In Lafayette, Louisiana, Louisiana claimed the doubles point with wins on courts three and one. Samuel Kyjaci and Gianluca Filoramo defeated Eric Perkowski and Julius Bult, 6-3, on court three. Mason Landreth and Leonard Tramolay secured a 6-3 win over Saheb Sodhi and Jose Murariu on court one. The No. 2 doubles match between Kale Mize and Jay Temming was unfinished with Louisiana leading 5-3, according to the match summary.
Louisiana then won four straight singles matches, including victories on courts five and six. Darius Balan defeated Olle Noltorp, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, and Nikola Kolyachev beat Ritabrata Sarkar, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 6. On Sunday in Thibodaux, Southern Miss quickly took control against Nicholls State. The Golden Eagles secured the doubles point with wins from Sarkar and Perkowski, 6-2, on court three, and Mize and Bult, 6-3, on court two. The No. 1 doubles match with Sodhi and Murariu was left unfinished with the team leading 5-3.
Southern Miss sealed the sweep with straight-set singles victories from three players. Sodhi beat Armbruster, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Perkowski defeated Mateo De Los Santos, 6-3, 6-2, on court four. Bult completed the victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mitchell Spence at No. 5. Murariu, Mize, and Noltorp all had matches unfinished when the match ended.
The weekend performances highlighted Sodhi’s strong play, as he contributed the lone point against Louisiana and secured another singles win against Nicholls. Perkowski and Bult also played key roles in the team’s final matches of the season. The Golden Eagles now prepare for the Sun Belt Championships, scheduled to begin April 16 in Rome, Georgia.
