Southern Miss Men’s Tennis Dominates Weekend Home Matches
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The Southern Miss Golden Eagles men’s tennis team went undefeated at home over the weekend, defeating New Orleans 6-1 on Friday and Norfolk State 5-2 on Saturday, according to school officials.
Southern Miss took control early against New Orleans with doubles wins by Kale Mize and Jay Temming, as well as Olle Noltorp and Ritabrata Sarkar, to secure the first point. In singles play, Mize, Jose Murariu, Saheb Sodhi, Noltorp, and Temming all recorded victories. Murariu notably bounced back after losing the first set to win in a third-set tiebreaker, helping maintain the team’s momentum.
The Golden Eagles carried their energy into Saturday’s match against Norfolk State, earning the doubles point with victories from Mize and Temming, and Sodhi and Eric Perkowski. In singles, Mize, Sodhi, Noltorp, and Matei Varbanciu each secured wins. Varbanciu completed a tight three-set match to seal the weekend sweep and keep the team undefeated at home as the spring schedule continues.
Southern Miss will play its next match at home on March 8 against Marquette, according to the school’s schedule.
