Southern Miss Men’s Tennis Clinches Senior Day Win Over Omaha

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The University of Southern Mississippi men’s tennis team secured a 4-3 victory over Omaha on Friday at the USM Tennis Complex, marking an undefeated home season for the Golden Eagles, according to the school’s athletics department.

The match was played in front of a home crowd and also served as Senior Day, honoring Saheb Sodhi and Eric Perkowski before the start of the match.

Omaha claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Anthony Scheglowski and Liam Spiers defeated Sodhi and Perkowski 7-6, while Ethan Gaubert and Bryan Kuntz topped Jose Murariu and Matei Varbanciu 6-1. The No. 1 doubles match between Kale Mize and Jay Temming and Omaha’s Kristian Thomas and Pavan Uppu was left unfinished with Southern Miss leading 6-5.

Southern Miss responded in singles, winning four matches. Murariu defeated Christian Trevey 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Sodhi added a 6-3, 6-2 win over Spiers at No. 3, and Ritabrata Sarkar beat Kaden Taylor 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6. Olle Noltorp secured the clincher, coming back after dropping the first set in a tiebreak to beat Pavan Uppu 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4.

Omaha’s wins came from Bryan Kuntz at No. 1 and Maddox Lundell at No. 5. Kuntz defeated Mize 6-1, 5-7, 6-0, and Lundell topped Perkowski 6-3, 6-4.

The Golden Eagles now prepare for upcoming road matches at UIW on March 16 and UTSA on March 17, according to the university’s schedule.
