Southern Miss Men’s Golf Ties for Fifth After Opening Round at Dorado Beach Collegiate

The University of Southern Mississippi men’s golf team finished the opening round of the Dorado Beach Collegiate tied for fifth place, according to the school’s athletics department. The Golden Eagles shot a 293 at TPC Dorado Beach, trailing only five strokes behind the top four teams.

Freshman Jake Moffitt led Southern Miss with a one-under 71, including 11 pars and four birdies. Moffitt’s performance placed him tied for eighth individually. Benjamin Fernandez scored an even 72, tying for 13th with six birdies, four of which came on the front nine.

Matthew Javier posted a 73, finishing tied for 17th, while Tommy Latter shot a 77, tying for 58th. Latter contributed three birdies and eight pars during his round. The team collectively recorded 17 birdies, tied with George Mason for the most in the field.

The tournament continues Monday, with round two beginning at 6:30 a.m. local time. Moffitt will start on hole five, Fernandez on six, Javier on seven, Latter on eight, Supakorn Amornchaichan on nine, and Walker Wise on hole 17A, all via shotgun start.

Southern Miss is tied with George Mason in birdies and trails Butler’s Derek Tabor by one in birdies overall. Live scoring and updates can be found on the school’s athletics website and social media channels.
