Southern Miss Men’s Golf Rises to Second Place at Dorado Beach Collegiate

The University of Southern Mississippi men’s golf team advanced to second place after finishing round two of the Dorado Beach Collegiate in Puerto Rico, according to a release from the university’s athletics department. The Golden Eagles sit just four strokes behind tournament leader Stetson and ahead of host team UNCG.

Senior Matthew Javier fired a four-under 68 in the second round, tying for the best score of the event and moving into a tie for second individually. Javier’s performance followed a one-over opening round. Fellow Golden Eagle Jake Moffitt matched Javier with a two-under 70, improving on his previous round with a three-under 33 on the back nine.

Southern Miss’s team improved from a five-over finish in the first round to an eight-under team score in round two. The team leads the field of 15 in par 4 scoring, with an average of 3.99 and a collective score of one-under. They also lead in birdies with 40, two ahead of Butler and Stetson.

Individually, Walker Wise posted a one-under 71, climbing 28 spots to tie for 34th. Amornchaichan jumped 30 places with a two-under 70, and Fernandez scored an even 72, matching his first-round score. Moffitt is tied for first on par 3s and par 4s, with Amornchaichan tied for third on par 4s.

The third round begins Monday at 6 a.m. local time with a shotgun start. Javier will tee off on hole 1B, following Moffitt on hole 1A. Fans can follow live scoring through the university’s social media channels and website.
