Southern Miss Men’s Golf Ranks in Top Four After Two Rounds at Hal Williams Collegiate

Semmes, Alabama — The University of Southern Mississippi men’s golf team is in fourth place after 36 holes at the Hal Williams Collegiate at RTJ Magnolia Grove, according to school officials. The Golden Eagles are tied with Louisiana Tech and trail only UAB, Eastern Michigan and No. 13 Illinois.

Benjamin Fernandez leads Southern Miss, sitting in fourth place individually. He has posted a total of 133 strokes, including a seven-under 66 in the second round, with 12 birdies overall. Fernandez shot a 67 in the first round and a 66 in the second.

Jake Moffitt carded a 70 in the first round and improved to a 68 in round two. He finished the day with nine pars and is tied for sixth place overall. Moffitt has 10 birdies in the tournament, four on par-5 holes.

Junior Tommy Latter is tied for 25th after rounds of 68 and 71. Supakorn Amornchaichan shot a 69 in the second round to finish with a total of 142. Matthew Javier posted back-to-back 73s and remains a consistent scorer for the team.

The team is nine-under par on par-5 holes and trails Illinois by one birdie overall. The Golden Eagles are competing against a field that includes Illinois, Eastern Michigan, UAB, and others. Round three begins Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
