Southern Miss Men’s Golf Finishes Second at Seminole Intercollegiate Amid Weather Delay
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The University of Southern Mississippi men’s golf team finished the first day of the Seminole Intercollegiate in second place, according to team officials. Play was halted due to weather, with round two scheduled to resume Monday at 3 p.m., weather permitting.
Southern Miss posted a team score of 294, which is one-over par, and was tied for second behind Florida State. The Golden Eagles lead conference opponent Troy and trail the host Seminoles on the leaderboard.
Senior Matthew Javier led the team, tying for first individually after posting a three-under 69. Javier opened with a three-under 33 on the front nine, including three birdies in five holes. He added a par, bogey, and an eagle on hole 12 during round two, which was incomplete at the time of the weather delay.
Other notable performances include junior Supakorn Amornchaichan, who shot a five-birdie 71 in round one and followed with a 64 through 16 holes in round two before play was suspended. Moffitt and Latter both shot 77 in round one, while Benjamin Fernandez carded a 77. Fernandez was tied for 88th overall with a total score of six-over 143 through two rounds.
The tournament features 21 teams, with Southern Miss and Ball State tied for second on par 3 holes with an average score of 3.00. The second round will resume Monday afternoon with a shotgun start at 3 p.m., contingent on weather conditions.
