Southern Miss Men’s Golf Closes Day Two in Second at Seminole Intercollegiate

The Southern Miss men’s golf team moved into second place after the second round of the Seminole Intercollegiate at Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Florida, according to the university’s athletics department. The Golden Eagles trail Florida State, the host school, and lead Stetson heading into the final day.

Play was interrupted Monday morning due to hazardous weather, with only three-quarters of the second round completed before darkness halted play. The team managed to complete the round Monday evening. Matthew Javier led Southern Miss with a 5-under-par 139 through 36 holes and is tied for second overall. Javier shot a 2-under 70 on Monday, playing five holes, with three pars, a birdie, and a bogey.

Javier is behind Troy’s Lee Poppell, who is 3-under on par-4 holes, and is tied with teammate Supakorn Amornchaichan, who shot an even 72 on Monday. Amornchaichan is tied for fourth place overall with a 1-under 143 through 36 holes. He played only two holes Monday but maintained consistency with his earlier round.

Jake Moffitt improved his standing by 34 spots, finishing with a 1-over 73 and is tied for 39th. Tommy Latter shot a 3-over 75, jumping 18 places. Benjamin Fernandez and Walker Wise, playing as an individual, struggled with double bogeys, finishing at 6-over 78 and 8-over 80, respectively.

The Golden Eagles will continue their pursuit of victory Tuesday at the Seminole Intercollegiate. Live scoring is available online, and fans can follow updates on the team’s Instagram account (@southernmissmg).

Southern Miss’ team score places them second behind Florida State, with Troy, Stetson, and others trailing in the standings. The tournament concludes Tuesday, with final results determining the champions.
